琵琶湖竹生島宝厳寺へ２０１０年に行ったとき、唐門の傷みが激しく哀れな状態になっていました。
宝厳寺のHPには以下のように説明されています。
当山の『唐門』、『観音堂』『舟廊下（渡廊 高屋根・渡廊 低屋根）』は昭和21年の全体修理以後、 昭和47年に屋根の葺き替えを行ったのみで、全体修理はとしては実に67年を経過し（屋根のみでも41年ぶり）、 飾り金具は金メッキが剥れ、彩色は剥落・退色が甚だしく、 漆塗りに至ってはひび割れや劣化が進み多くの箇所で剥落も進んでいました。 桧皮屋根も全体に苔の繁茂が見られ、腐朽が甚だしい状態となっていました。

この為、平成25年度より平成31年度までの6ヵ年の継続事業として、『唐門』『観音堂』『舟廊下(渡廊)』の檜皮屋根の全面葺き替え、彩色・漆塗りの塗り直し、及び飾り金具の鍍金メッキ仕上げを主な内容とした修理保存事業を行い、令和2年3月に完成しました。
